Turtle Watch
Next week as a team, we will hit the ground running with the wholesale side firing up for 2022, selling Autumn and Spring to our amazing loyal stockists here and in the USA, lots of new creations. It’s extra special because these have all been created virtually, from the sourcing and design of fabrics, to the picking of trims and embroidery, it’s a circular labour of love.
In the meantime, while sitting here on the island making the most of summer, the day breaks with early morning explorations. I read in one of the “best ever photography tips” books lying around the home, they said “get up and out early to capture nature” Ok I’ll give that a try.
Depending on the weather and today for the record is a stunner, the walk can vary. Wake up coffee is picked up on route. This morning we headed to main beach, the Point Lookout Headland, the surf lifesaver club has the best view from the top deck, especially with a cold corona, slice of lemon in view, or you can sit on the rocks, which was our choice this morning and drink your takeaway double shot latte.
Around the next nature bend is the entrance to the Point Lookout walk, a meandering wooden path, easy steps and decked look out points when, even if you’re afraid of heights, you’ll feel safe. I still stood back.
We all stopped to watch the family of turtles having their morning swim, the kids next to me were guessing if it was a family of 4, i.e 2 baby turtles and 2 parents, floating freely. It was hard to zoom in on them, the phone camera didn’t capture all 4, but the dark spot in the photo is one turtle, they were surfacing for air every few minutes.
Main beach can be accessed with a 4 wheel drive and the drive at sunset is to die for, 50km plus of white soft sand, leading to the southernmost point
Back at my desk today, enjoying the connection to home base, back and forth to India for design sketches, print concepts, book edits, thanks to the turtles who set the pace for the day, slow and steady.
Colourful summer living,
