Down time

First week of the year and it’s practise down time-ing, which doesn’t come easily on day one, it usually takes a few days, about two mornings of barefoot beach walks, yoga sessions, ocean swims with salt on the skin, a couple of early nights. Less chatting, more sharing and laughter with unplanned resting.

This week, we had the high summer launch the TVSN shows, Live TV and standing for an hour skyping into Sydney is fun as well as zaps a bit of energy staying alert and making sure I don’t say anything wrong, it’s not like it can be deleted.

The beginning of downtime was camping at this caravan park called Amity, a step back in time, original caravans mixed with swags pitched under trees, giving shade from the early morning light.

Plus the all mod con campertrailers with the bells and whistles.

It is fun to remember, how we used to holiday, 2 parents and 5 small kids squeezed into a caravan for weeks on end, so much joy. The cooking on one stove, with one pot, riding bikes without helmets, walking 5m’s to the ocean's playing all day on the beach throwing a cricket ball swimming coming in for dinner. Having an early night and resting in the summer has always been part of the Australian childhood life and my life.

It's the consciousness of putting down the tools (or trying to put down the tools) inducing relaxation and doing nothing. Just practising doing nothing for at least one week, yep it’s a challenge, just like quitting sugar as I try to do every Christmas.

Day two is feeling more relaxed than day one. About to go and sit on my favourite rock with some of my favourite people. Finding the time to do this is so worth it.

Happy summer loving and downtime.
